A Lifetime movie based on a disturbing true crime is coming to Netflix
Netflix’s content licensing partnership with Lifetime movies has brought countless thrillers and true-crime stories to the front, including Gaslit by My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story and Suitcase Killer: The Melanie McGuire Story. But this week, the streaming giant will add yet another Lifetime movie based on a chilling true-crime, Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story.
Scheduled to arrive on Netflix on April 15th, Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story recounts a disturbing true crime about a North Carolina man who impregnated his own daughter, after reconnecting with her as an adult following years of estrangement.
Directed and executive produced by Elisabeth Rohm, Husband Father Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story chronicles the unsettling real-life story of Steven Pladl, who was arrested in January 2018 for impregnating his biological daughter, Katie Pladl.
The Lifetime movie follows the lives of Alyssa and her ex-husband, Steven, who starts an affair with Katie, whom they had originally placed for adoption as a baby, after reuniting with her as an adult.
After Steven persuades Katie to move in with the family, his subsequent negligence of every other family member drives Alyssa out. But upon discovering their affair and that Katie is expecting, Alyssa warns her of his abusive past, only for the latter to turn a blind eye until it’s too late.
According to CBS News, Katie and Steven illegally tied the knot in July 2017, and in September, she gave birth to a baby boy before relocating to North Carolina, where they were arrested on charges related to incest, adultery, and contribution to delinquency. The result? With Steven behind bars, Katie is sent back to her adoptive parents and their infant son is placed under Steven’s mother’s care.
Following Steven’s release, although Katie tries to sever ties with him, the decision leads him to commit a streak of murders, starting with the cold-blooded murder of their son, then Katie and her adoptive parents, before ultimately killing himself.
While the story might sound stranger than fiction, it is tragically very real. Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story is shaped through Alyssa’s recounting, which automatically elevates the impact.
So, in case you were unaware, mark your calendars as Husband, Father, Killer: The Alyssa Pladl Story lands on Netflix this week.
