‘Wonka’s The Golden Ticket’: Everything to know about the new competition series
Do you love reality TV? Well, then, you’re going to love what’s next on Netflix: Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved 1964 novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Premiering this autumn, the new competition series follows in the footsteps of Charlie Bucket and Grandpa Joe from the original book, meaning 12 golden ticket winners get to bring a partner of their choice straight through the gates of Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. Once they step inside, the real show begins.
Wonka’s The Golden Ticket pays tribute to the source in more ways than one, and as a fan, that’s enough of a tease.
So, if that makes you curious, here’s an overview of everything you must know about Wonka’s The Golden Ticket.
What is the competition series about?
In Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, 12 golden ticket winners enter Wonka’s Chocolate Factory with their respective partners. Once inside, they have to make it through Wonka’s difficult challenges and hard-to-resist temptations, which are orchestrated to push them to the edge in every which way. As players navigate the equally majestic and unpredictable landscape, they must make use of their strengths, instincts, and character to survive the chaos.
Not to mention, run-ins with an Oompa Loompa or two aren’t unlikely. By the end of the game, only one winner will win the prize. So, only time will tell how the headcount shrinks.
The inspiration behind the series
In addition to the literary inspiration, Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wonka’s The Golden Ticket, also serves as a tribute to the 1971 movie, featuring a recreated voice of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka, with the consent of the Gene Wilder Estate.
In a conversation with Tudum, Karen B Wilder said on behalf of Mr Wilder’s estate, “We are delighted that Wonka’s The Golden Ticket celebrates the warmth and imagination that he brought to the role, introducing that magic to a new generation while honouring the fans who have cherished it for decades.”
Additionally, fans get an opportunity to see Rusty Goffe, who portrayed Oompa Loompa in the classic film, back at the chocolate factory.
