Will there be a third season of ‘BEEF’? Here’s what we know
BEEF is back on Netflix with a new set of twisted characters, storyline, and beefs in the highly anticipated second season of the critically acclaimed drama series.
Although creator Lee Sung Jin originally pitched the series as an anthology, the second instalment of the Emmy-winning series premiered on April 16th, more than three years after its April 2023 debut.
In a conversation with Variety in May 2024, Lee explained, “I always thought a show called BEEF – where every season there are new characters, there’s a new ‘beef’ – would be fun. When you’re filming, there’s no season two guaranteed. That’s why the story was so close-ended, because if there is no season two, this works as a limited series.”
While BEEF is clearly not a limited series with a new season currently streaming on Netflix, it makes one curious whether the show will return for a third season as well.
As of now, Netflix hasn’t renewed the show for a third season. However, if the streamer does greenlight BEEF for a third instalment, it will most likely bring forth a fresh set of characters beefing on new grounds.
Back in April 2023, the showrunner said in an interview with Rolling Stone, “I wanted to have a conclusive feel just in case, but there are a lot of ideas on my end to keep this story going,” upon being asked about the season one finale. “I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet, but I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently,” he added.
That’s promising enough, to be fair. However, during the season two premiere of BEEF this month, Lee said that he was “perfectly happy with this being the last season.” “But if the universe shoves something else in my face that I have to respond to, I’m always trying to remain open,” he continued.
For now, creator Lee is soaking in the success of season two while simultaneously working on a script for the forthcoming X-Men reboot. “I’m a big, big fan of the comics and I’m just very honoured to have a very small part in it,” he said to Variety in April 2026.
Surely, it’s hard to predict what lies ahead for BEEF since Netflix remains tight-lipped. But considering the showrunner was once armed with a three-season blueprint, only time will tell if the renewal decision tallies with the potential.
