‘BEEF’ season two ending explained: What happens to Josh?
If the debut season of Netflix’s smash hit anthology series, BEEF, felt dramatic, watch how the second season dials up the drama in more ways than one.
The second instalment kicks off at the Monte Vista Country Club, and by the time we reach the end of the season, we’re right back where we started. But the time frame between the beginning and the finale spans eight years, meaning a lot has changed even in the embrace of familiarity.
Similar to the first few minutes of BEEF’s second season premiere, there’s a fundraiser ongoing in the finale. But instead of Josh and Lindsay on the podium, it’s the former underling employees, Ashley and Austin, who have taken over. With Ashley now serving as the general manager and Austin maintaining the relationship, the question on every mind is: What exactly happened to Josh?
So, if you’re curious to know the same, here’s how BEEF ended for Josh.
What happens to Josh in BEEF season two?
It doesn’t take long for BEEF’s second season to convey that the couples at the heart of the show are vying for Chairwoman Park’s approval. But for Austin and Ashley, the Gen Z pair to rise, their predecessors must inevitably take a backseat. Although Josh’s life spirals out of control throughout the season, he specifically unravels in the seventh and eighth episodes.
First, one of Chairwoman Park’s fixers kidnaps him, who aims to kill Josh and cover up the murder as a fake death by suicide. The fixer even writes a suicide note on his behalf, admitting to the embezzlement allegations – some true while others are a bit exaggerated. However, the plan ultimately doesn’t materialise when the rope breaks, and Josh frees himself.
Josh then kills the fixer in self-defence, hiding himself in some mulch. After arriving in Korea, he tries to warn and save Lindsay, but his shenanigans unfortunately get everyone kidnapped again. If something good comes out of the confinement, it is Josh’s honest confrontation with Lindsay, leading to his turning himself in to protect his wife.
Eight years forward, we learn that Josh was found guilty of embezzlement and money laundering. And that Chairwoman Park capitalised on this aspect to explain her husband’s death. In the public version of events, Josh’s crimes helped cover up the death at Trochos for Dr Kim, who “took his own life.”
While Josh still found reckoning in prison time, the last time we see him is on his first day as a free man.
