In the fourth season of the hit Netflix romantic drama, the trio were busy “seizing their passions.” But in the fifth instalment, they will be on a hawk-eyed pursuit of their dreams.
In a conversation with Tudum, showrunner Sheryl J Anderson confirmed that “chasing your dreams” is the central theme of the forthcoming season, which takes Helen and Dana all the way to New York City to visit Maddie, who just started her latest publishing job. “We wanted to give everybody that thrilling New York adventure,” she says.
While Netflix also recently released a trailer for a preview of those thrills, for those wondering what else awaits Sweet Magnolias season five, here’s a rundown of what you can expect.
What happens in season five?
The fifth season of Sweet Magnolias finds Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue in Manhattan, New York, with Maddie coming to terms with her dream-come-true job while simultaneously realising the price at which it comes. Meanwhile, after seasons of anticipation, Helen is finally ready to marry Erik. As for Dana, when the fourth season of the show concluded, she was working towards developing her own teaching kitchen.
But in the fifth season, she struggles with second thoughts, wondering whether her dreams are on par with those of her husband, especially as the pair spend their last summer with their daughter before she leaves for college. While the drama is undoubtedly packed with adventure in season five, expect some chaos and unexpected twists and turns along the way.
Who is new in the cast?
Netflix has roped in Jamie-Lynn Sigler to portray Nell Winters in Sweet Magnolias season five. Nell is a renowned writer with whom Maddie develops a friendship after relocating to New York. Additionally, Janice Wesley has joined the series as Miss Eustice, a town matron of Serenity, John Gabriel Rodriquez stars as Clark Bellson, a rival business owner, while Courtney Grace plays Courtney Sinclair, Ronnie’s new business partner.
Aidan Merwarth as Noah Wharton, the Whartons’ grandson, Austin Woods as Blake Monaghan, and Iman Benson as Jessica Whitley, Erik’s niece, round out the new list of members.
