As Terry, Diane, Angela, Marcus, Sheila, Troy, and Mike reunite to celebrate Jasmine and Wesley’s wedding in Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Again? on Netflix, they seem to have evolved in more ways than one. But does that rob the movie of its well-known chaos and drama? Far from it!
Even though the older generation seems to have outgrown their bad habits, a destination wedding cannot really do without dirty laundry, at least not on Perry’s watch.
So, while it looks like the old gang have straightened their lives, we can barely say the same about the younger generation, especially the bride-to-be and groom-to-be, who clearly have skeletons hidden in their closet.

Before Marcus and Angela’s daughter Jasmine and Roselyn’s son Wesley tie the knot in Why Did I Get Married Again?, fans discover that the duo have been hiding a series of infidelities. It all comes unravelling when the elders discuss the upcoming wedding at the kick-off dinner, with Sheila sharing her concerns about Jasmine and Wesley.
It turns out that weeks earlier, when Jasmine was on a call with Sheila, the latter overheard Wesley yelling at her. Having been in an emotionally abusive relationship with Mike previously, as shown in Why Did I Get Married?, she feels the bride-to-be could be in trouble. Although Jasmine confirms everything is alright, Sheila and now Diane cannot do away with their worries. However, Jasmine insists that her aunts don’t say a word about it to Angela, and they agree.
But skeletons can only be hidden for so long. At the rehearsal dinner in Italy, Jasmine spills the tea that before proposing to her, Wesley cheated on her. To get even, Jasmine chose the questionable path as well, only to contract an STD in the process. Surprisingly, that’s exactly what happened to her parents in Why Did I Get Married?
Jasmine reveals she hid all this because she didn’t want to disappoint Marcus and Angela, who come across as a picture-perfect couple. Terry and Diane’s children, Kenya and TJ, and Troy and Sheila’s son Denver double down, explaining just how overwhelming it is to live under their shadow. However, the older generation takes the cue and breaks the ice, peeling back the layers on their fair share of mistakes and challenges.
“Everybody struggles. Everybody’s going through something. It’s not about how bad it is, but how you move through it. This is what real love is, this is what marriage is. It’s ugly sometimes, and it’s messy. But it’s beautiful and it’s perfect, and it’s worth it when you stand there with that person and fight,” Terry says.
While that’s as real as it gets, it is this unloading of the baggage that finally culminates in Jasmine and Wesley walking down the aisle, putting a happy ending to Why Did I Get Married Again?
