Tyler Perry returns with ‘Why Did I Get Married Again?’ on Netflix
Did you smell this reunion from miles away, or was it just us? Fans have been asking for years whether Why Did I Get Married? gang would ever get back together, and Tyler Perry has finally shown the green light.
After rocking it in Beauty in Black earlier this year, Perry is bringing Why Did I Get Married Again? to Netflix on September 9, bringing the franchise back for a third film nearly twenty years after it started.
If you’ve seen the first two films, you already know how it goes. A bunch of friends head off for what should be a nice little getaway, only for old arguments and marriage problems to come out, with long-buried secrets spilling.
This time, though, instead of another holiday, the whole thing is about a destination wedding. Sounds lovely on paper, but once old relationships start bumping into new problems, you can pretty much guarantee the fireworks won’t just be in the sky.
Tyler Perry has made it clear this isn’t just about wheeling everybody back out for a bit of nostalgia and hoping for the best. There is actually a bigger story behind it. This one’s looking at how the decisions the original couples made end up affecting their kids, who start to fall into some of the very same traps as their parents.
Most of the original cast is back, but there’s a new face: Taraji P. Henson’s joining in with a brand-new character, and she has already hinted she’s going to turn the whole wedding upside down.
Getting the film made wasn’t exactly straightforward, mind. Perry admitted back in late 2024 that everybody’s schedules were all over the place, making it dead difficult to get the cast back together. Then, out of nowhere in 2025, he started teasing the script online before filming.
The film’s another big step in Perry’s partnership with Netflix, and that’s been paying off nicely for both sides. Let’s see, what does Perry have in the box for us this time?
