Netflix has partnered with legendary Japanese studio Toho for a new, groundbreaking television adaptation of the 1960 movie The Human Vapor, titled Human Vapor.
Shinzo Katayama is directing the Japanese Netflix original television series, taking on the legacy of Ishiro Honda, who originally directed The Human Vapor over 64 years ago. While the adaptation will undoubtedly retain a bold new storyline, viewers can also expect high-profile, cutting-edge technology for advanced visual effects.
The creator of Train to Busan, Yeon Sang-ho, who was also behind Netflix’s Parasyte: The Grey has helmed the project as an executive producer, with Ryu Yong-jae serving as the second writer.

What is the plot?
Netflix has confirmed that the reimagination of The Human Vapor will “feature a fresh storyline.” While Human Vapor is undeniably rooted in the 1960 original, the new series takes place when, on live television, a person starts swelling only to explode entirely. As the entire nation reels from the unprecedented shock, the culprit behind the murder is identified as the “Human Vapor” – a killer with the ability to transform into gas and permeate any barrier.
Right before he commits a crime, he announces his killings, teasing the authorities who struggle invariably to corner him. As a result, with each new murder, he leaves society gripped by an even bigger fear: is there any end to it all?
Who is in the cast and crew?
Netflix has cast UTA to portray Human Vapor in the upcoming Netflix series, who’s surrounded by a star-cast joined by the likes of Shun Oguri, Yu Aoi, Suzu Hirose, Kento Hayashi, and Yutaka Takenouchi.
Sokichi Onoda and Yoomin Hailey Yang produce the series, with Nen Hyo and Ryoji Kure executive producing and Akihiro Yammauchi co-executive producing.
