What role will Lady Gaga play in ‘Wednesday’ season two?
Netflix seems to be on a roll with exciting announcements about beloved shows. The global hit series Wednesday just had a superstar join its beloved cast for the upcoming second season. It is none other than the singer-songwriter and actor Lady Gaga.
Along with an immensely successful music career, she has also featured in various films since 2013. Gaga has especially received critical acclaim for her role in A Star Is Born. She achieved nominations from the Academy Awards, British Academy Film Awards, Critics’ Choice Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and even the Screen Actors Guild Award, among others.
She will be starring in Wednesday as a legendary teacher at Nevermore, Rosaline Rotwood. At their annual event, Tudum, Netflix revealed that Lady Gaga’s character will be crossing paths with Wednesday herself, played by Jenna Ortega.
While not much is known about the character yet, it just adds to her aura that the platform is building towards. Described as enigmatic and mysterious, Gaga as Rotwood will surely catch eyeballs and make a memorable appearance.
The announcement itself came as a blend of Gaga’s signature dramatic flair and Wednesday’s dark vibe as she gave a special performance at Tudum. She performed a medley of her own songs, including a special mix of her new song ‘Zombieboy’ and the theme song of the original show, The Addams Family. She rose from a coffin which was engraved with the writing ‘Here Lies the Monster Queen’, to take the stage.
Gaga’s connection with the show goes back to its first season. This happened when her song ‘Bloody Mary’ went viral with snippets of Ortega’s iconic dance as Wednesday in the first season. Both the show and song observed a sudden and rapid increase in popularity, even though the song’s original release was in 2011. Gaga delivered a spectacular performance of the song as well.
Wednesday is based on the character Wednesday Addams, originally created by Charles Addams. The show received immense love and catapulted Ortega into instant success for her convincing portrayal of Wednesday. Fans eagerly wait for the release of the second season, which will be divided into two parts. The first part will hit the screens on August 6th, and the second part, which will feature Gaga, will release on September 3rd.
