Watch the official trailer for Netflix’s ‘The Last Kingdom’ final season

Netflix has finally revealed the official trailer for the fifth and final season of The Last Kingdom, besides announcing its release date.

The Last Kingdom is a historical drama series based on Bernard Cornwell’s Saxon Stories that premiered in 2015. The show dealt with the various invasions during the reign of the Saxons where a monarch tries to defend his kingdom from brutal Norse invasions.

The timeline of the show covers nearly five decades of ancient history that has been described as “866 following the Great Heathen Army’s arrival in Britain, focusing on the resistance of the Kingdom of Wessex to ongoing Viking incursions to Southern England.”

After a long wait following the release of the fourth season in April 2020, the series is set to stream its final season on March 9th, 2022.

The trailer paints pretty intense images and stars Alexander Dreymon, Emily Cox, Timothy Innes, Millie Brady and others. From Uhtred and Brida making an appearance to a more mature-looking King Edward appearing in the trailer, the season will probably finally document Uhtred’s northward march to take back his home.

Netflix has also released a few images from the upcoming season that already hints at Brida being an integral part of the season as she tries to exact revenge against Uhtred. The fifth season might also show King Edward finally coming to terms with his duties as a king. The pictures also hint at an imminent battle as well as a presumably emotional ending as the plotlines finally come to an end.

Netflix has also ordered a spin-off feature film for the series, titled Seven Kings Must Die that will see Uhtred and some of the cast members yet again.

Before the release of the fifth season on March 9th, check out the first four seasons on Netflix now.
