Watch the new trailer for 'There's Someone Inside Your House'

In the run-up to the spookiest month of the year, Netflix has released its first trailer for the new movie, There’s Someone Inside Your House, starring The Walking Dead’s Sydney Park.

Based on the novel of the same name by Stephanie Perkin, There’s Someone Inside Your House has been adapted by Shazam! screenwriter Henry Gayden and is produced by horror experts, James Wan and Shawn Levy of Stranger Things.

Showing off a classic slasher plot, updated for contemporary audiences, the synopsis for the upcoming films reads, “Makani Young has moved from Hawaii to quiet, small-town Nebraska to live with her grandmother and finish high school, but as the countdown to graduation begins, her classmates are stalked by a killer intent on exposing their darkest secrets to the entire town, terrorising victims while wearing a life-like mask of their own face”. Concluding, the synopsis reads, “With a mysterious past of her own, Makani and her friends must discover the killer’s identity before they become victims themselves”.

Our very first tease of the brand new film directed by Patrick Brice shows a violent, tense slasher horror that recalls the fun thrills of the classic 1980s genre. It is up for debate which film sparked the significant cultural interest in the slasher sub-genre that would pave the way for the video nasty moral panic.

The sleazy rape-revenge horror The Last House on the Left released in 1972 was undoubtedly an early signifier for the trend to come, though the later terror of Tobe Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre would more closely resemble the horror tropes we see today.

Starring Théodore Pellerin, Asjha Cooper, Dale Whibley, Jesse LaTourette, Diego Josef, Burkely Duffield, and Sarah Dugdale, There’s Someone Inside Your House is due for release on Wednesday, October 6.
