The first full trailer for Johan Renck’s upcoming Netflix movie Spaceman has arrived.

Spaceman is based on Jaroslav Kalfař’s 2017 novel Spaceman of Bohemia. It was directed by Renck, the Swedish music video creator who also made the hit HBO miniseries Chernobyl, and written by Colby Day, who adapted it from the book.

The film stars Adam Sandler as astronaut Jakub Procházka, with Carey Mulligan playing his pregnant wife, Lenka Procházka, and Paul Dano providing the voice of Hanuš, an extraterrestrial spider. Elsewhere in the cast, Blue Velvet legend Isabella Rossellini is Jakub’s commanding officer, Commissioner Tuma, with Lena Olin and Kunal Nayyar also appearing.

Spaceman follows Jakub as he is sent to the galaxy’s edge to collect strange ancient dust but finds his life back home on Earth falling apart. At rock bottom, he turns to the only thing that can help him, a strange spider from the dawn of time hiding in the shadows of his spacecraft.

The arrival of Spaceman has been a long time coming. Principal photography on the movie commenced in the Czech Republic in April 2021 and finished in July of that year. This means that when the film is finally released in March, it will have been nearly three years since production ended.

The movie was originally scheduled to be released by Netflix last year, but it was reported in August that it was being delayed to 2024. Spaceman is now set to have its world premiere at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival in February ahead of a streaming release by Netflix on March 1st.
