Ahead of its premiere today, Ricky Gervais shared a teaser trailer of the third season of Netflix’s After Life.
Gervais, 60, took to Twitter to share a “world exclusive treat” before it premieres on the streaming service. The short nearly three-minute teaser gives a glimpse into the lives of all the people at Tambury before they unite once again for the third and final season.
After Life sees Gervais as Tony, a cynical and disillusioned journalist whose life loses meaning and purpose after he loses his wife, Lisa to breast cancer. Hung up on her memories, he keeps watching her videos and is mean to those around him. However, the first two seasons see a brilliant catharsis as Tony goes from being a suicidal, grumpy meanie to a kind and compassionate man who still cracks dry, zany jokes.
The second season saw Tony losing his geriatric father and finally managing to garner a romantic interest in the nurse, Emma. The teaser shows Tony and Emma rowing, Tony’s cemetery pal, Anne chatting on the phone, Matt finally looking happy with his family and more.
While Gervais is “gutted” about the show not returning for a fourth season, he said that it is essential to end with the third to keep up the magic and essence of the show.
The returning cast will see Ricky Gervais as Tony Johnson, Ashley Jensen as Emma, Mandeep Dhillon as Sandy, Diane Morgan as Kath, Kerry Godliman as Lisa Johnson, Tom Basden as Matt, Tony Way as Lenny, Penelope Wilton as Anne, Michelle Greenidge as Valerie, Roisin Conaty as Roxy, Joe Wilkinson as Pat and Jo Hartley as June.
