Watch the new trailer for 'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story'

Fans of Netflix’s hit period romance Bridgerton can look forward to an upcoming prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, created by Shonda Rhimes.

The show will chart Queen Charlotte’s rise to power, with Golda Rosheuvel reprising her role from Bridgerton and India Amarteifio playing a younger version of the character. Other characters from Bridgerton will appear in the prequel, such as younger versions of King George, played by Corey Mylchreest and Lady Agatha Danbury, played by Arsema Thomas.

In the trailer, we are granted a greater look at the early relationship between Charlotte and George, with the young queen initially attempting to run away from the marriage. However, she succumbs to the King’s charms as he declares, “You break rules, cause scandal. You’re the most royal person I have ever known.”

The show also traces the friendship between Charlotte and Lady Danbury, which we see in Bridgerton. Arsema Thomas plays the young Danbury, although Adjoa Andoh will also reprise her role as the older version of the character.

A logline for the show reads, “Centered on Queen Charlotte’s rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton.”

Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story will air on Netflix on May 4th, 2023.
