Watch James Wan's favourite horror film on Netflix

Netflix has a wide array of horror films that also includes one of the greatest cinematic universes within the genre of horror – The Conjuring universe. Helmed by the 2013 James Wan film, The Conjuring, this eight-film franchise continues to haunt scores of horror fans.

Wan led the way and was followed by legions of acclaimed horror filmmakers whose films in the franchise have had a huge impact on popular culture. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson’s roles as the famous demonologist couple, Lorraine and Ed Warren, in particular, have attracted fan attention.

Wan and his team have explored the genre and sub-genres of horror thoroughly, putting together a sinister and eerie franchise that is the second highest-grossing horror franchise in the history of cinema, after Godzilla

Recently, one of the films from the franchise, Annabelle: Creation, soared charts on Netflix. However, have you ever wondered what films caught this modern master of horror’s attention?

Well, unsurprisingly enough, Wan has always been in awe of the 1973 horror masterpiece The Exorcist. He said, “The Exorcist is one of the finest movies ever made, and it just so happens to be a scary movie.”

The Exorcist arrived on Netflix on February 1st, 2022. Directed by William Friedkin and starring Linda Blair, Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller and others, this horror classic has haunted generations ever since its release.

Many occult myths surround the film, many of which suggest the film to be cursed. It revolves around a young girl, Regan and her mother, Chris, and how their lives go downhill after a demonic entity possesses the girl after messing with an Ouija board.

A raw and horrifying portrayal of evil and faith, the film’s hysteria and mystique adds to its reputation.
