Watch the brand-new trailer for season two of Netflix’s ‘Zombieverse’

Netflix has released a brand-new trailer for the second season of its hit Korean horror-comedy reality show Zombieverse.

Season two is entitled Zombieverse 2: New Blood, and it features a stacked cast of new stars and returning favourites. Joining the season one cast, which included comedian Park Na-rae and Sweet Home actress Lee Si-young, is a host of new stars from the world of entertainment – and even a regular person or two for good measure.

K-pop stars Yook Sung-jae, Kwon Eun-bi and Taeyeon; music producer Code Kunst; comedian Je Se-ho; and hip-hop star Defconn will join the group of “survivors” alongside civil servant Kim Seon-tae. There will also be a unique wrinkle in this season’s cast, as American celebrity chef Andre Rush will be along for the blood-soaked ride.

The show’s first season thrilled and amused audiences as they watched celebrities confronted with a simulated zombie apocalypse, all while scare actors did their best to terrify and amuse them. If they wanted to “survive,” the celebrities had to band together for protection and shelter, and they were forced to complete challenges to progress the game and further the story.

As the trailer reveals, season two will begin with the group stranded on an abandoned highway surrounded by broken-down cars. As the story progresses, they become involved in a desperate race to create a vaccine for the zombie plague. Fittingly, though, it sees them tasked with safely moving an “infected” person to a top-secret location.

The trailer also gives glimpses at several new locations in season two, including the subway, spooky underground tunnels, an abandoned gym, and a swimming pool.

Producer Park Jin-kyung told Tudum, “In Zombieverse, we created this universe, and in Zombieverse: New Blood, a full-fledged adventure begins. We designed the quests to offer dynamic and suspenseful large-scale action, making the cast ponder life and death amidst zombie chaos. The expanded stage starts from Jeju Island and encompasses the entire country, finally heading towards Seoul. The comical zombies are key to the reality TV variety show. In every episode, zombies not seen in typical zombie genres appear en masse to trigger laughter.”

The latest South Korean export to take the world by storm

Zombieverse is the latest success story to come out of South Korea. In recent years, the country’s music, fashion, and pop culture have seen a huge boom in popularity. K-pop artists like BLACKPINK and BTS have sold millions of records all over the world; Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite won ‘Best Picture’ at the Academy Awards; and Squid Game became the biggest thing on television in 2021, with a second season on the way.

Zombieverse 2: New Blood will arrive on Netflix worldwide on November 19.
