Tom Holland apparently missed out on bagging ‘Peaky Blinders’ role

Spider-Man star Tom Holland had revealed how he missed out on bagging a role in the popular British crime drama series, Peaky Blinders, now streaming on Netflix as a part of the streamer’s deal with BBC.

Holland has taken over the role of the friendly neighbourhood superhero from the able shoulders of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, becoming a permanent member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After starring in various box-topping hits, he was recently seen in the 2021 film, Spider-Man: No Way Home, alongside Benedict Cumberbatch, Zendaya, Mria Tomei etc.

Given Holland’s current influential status, it was indeed shocking to note how the BAFTA Rising Star Award-winner missed out on a role in Steven Knight’s popular series. While he did not specify the role he auditioned for, Holland revealed, “I actually auditioned for Peaky Blinders, and I did not get the part.”

Knight’s drama is an ode to the notorious Black Country Gang and their escapades. They were infamous for hiding dangerous razor blades in their peaked caps.

Focusing on the epic adventures of Thomas ‘Tommy’ Shelby, the ambitious leader of the gang, the show boasts of a heavyweight ensemble cast, including Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Adrien Brody, Anya Taylor-Joy, Paul Anderson and others.

With the sixth and final season on its way, Murphy has called the season “intense”. He told Rolling Stone magazine, “The word we keep using is ‘gothic’. Yeah, it’s going to be heavy!”

With six episodes, the sixth season will premiere on BBC One in the United Kingdom on February 27th, 2022, and most likely makes its way to Netflix six weeks after its premiere in the UK.

Murphy has previously revealed how “strange” it felt to shoot without Helen McCroy, who played Polly Gray in the series. McCrory tragically succumbed to an arduous battle with cancer in 2021. He penned an emotional tribute to her as well, talking about how Steven Knight had honoured her via the sixth and final season.

While the show is ending, a film is most likely on its way. As Knight promised, “I think of this sixth series as the end of the beginning.”
