Three Tyler Perry movies on Netflix you cannot skip in 2026

Tyler Perry’s partnership with Netflix doesn’t leave subscribers empty-handed for too long, and 2026 has been particularly rewarding.

Although fans have long entered the second half of the year, the Perry arc is far from over. But this feels like the time to take a trip down memory lane and recap the unmistakable blockbusters, because if viewers don’t catch up now, they could lag as more hits prepare to touch down before year-end.

While movies are not the only Perry stints that have hit home this year, with Beauty in Black dropping an explosive comeback and scoring a quick renewal, we’re addressing one genre at a time.

So, if you’re a superfan waiting for that one-stop watchlist, here are three Tyler Perry movies you cannot skip this year.

Three new Tyler Perry movies to stream on Netflix right now

Joe’s College Road Trip (Tyler Perry, 2026)

Tyler Perry kicked off the year with a laugh-out-loud road comedy, Joe’s College Road Trip, in February, and fans knew right then that 2026 would be a year to remember. The Netflix movie centres on high school graduate BJ, Atlanta District Attorney Brian’s son, who has grown up in a protected environment. He has subsequently remained largely distant from Black history. So, after BJ and his friends mock HBCUs and plan a trip to tour Pepperdine University, Brian reaches out to Aunt Madea.

For Brian, it is important that his son shows more respect for HBCUs, given his community’s history. As a result, Madea suggests that Brian let her foul-mouthed, free-spirited brother Joe accompany BJ on a cross-country road trip from Atlanta to California. Although initially reluctant, Brian convinces BJ to go with Joe under the ruse that his grandfather is counting his last days. Joe’s College Road Trip follows BJ and Joe as they embark on a chaotic road trip, with Joe helping BJ to experience reality in more ways than one.

Why Did I Get Married Again? (Tyler Perry, 2026)

Tyler Perry’s worldbuilding sets him apart from most of the modern filmmakers. So it is no wonder his highly anticipated franchise threequel, Why Did I Get Married Again? was received with open arms when it hit Netflix shelves last month. The 2026 comedy drama follows the original core group of middle-aged friends Terry, Diane, Angela, Marcus, Sheila, Troy, and Mike who travel to Lake Como, Italy, for the big, fat, destination wedding of Angela and Marcus’s daughter Jasmine.

Jasmine is set to tie the knot with Wesley, Roselyn’s son, in what appears to be a happy occasion. Yet, just hours into the long-awaited reunion, the weekend spirals into full-blown chaos. Although the parents have largely outgrown their bad habits, they realise their children are caught in the cycle of their past mistakes, which forces the older generation to reevaluate their own long-term commitments. So, will Jasmine and Wesley walk the aisle against all odds? Well, watch now to find out!

Doing Life (Tyler Perry, 2026)

While the Tyler Perry movie arc on Netflix has largely been about flexing funny bones in 2026, Doing Life largely strays away from the funny formula with a gripping, unique urban story. Premiered recently on October 2nd, the urban drama centres on a resilient single mother and an ex-convict who develop an unexpected bond after the latter safeguards her and her unborn baby from a prison riot at Holloway Correctional.

Doing Life follows Anika and Carousel, whose first encounter is anything but the meet-cute tropes fans expect in love stories. Months later, as they begin communicating through written letters, they form an intimate, intense pal-pen bond. However, once Carousel is released from jail, they realise that the physical distance and his past may not be the biggest factors interfering with a potential future, as far more potent obstacles squeeze in to derail things.
