Chris Hemsworth, known for his portrayal of the hunky god of thunder Thor in Marvel movies, once declared Cate Blanchett as his favourite actress, and it’s not difficult to see why.
As the release of Thor: Love and Thunder approached in 2022, Hemsworth engaged in an interview with WIRED, addressing a multitude of fan questions, including the one that quizzed him about his favourite actress.
To the question, “Who is Chris Hemsworth’s favourite actress?” Hemsworth revealed, “Cate Blanchett. I worked with her on Ragnarok. It’s pretty hard to go by, you know, being an Australian, a fellow Aussie, someone I’ve looked up to for many, many years and has just been in some of my favourite films.”
Blanchett’s filmography is a tapestry woven with diverse roles and exceptional performances. From her portrayal of the enigmatic Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings series to her turn as Lydia Tar in Todd Field’s Tár, which won her a BAFTA, Blanchett has shone in every role she has stepped into—even the more fun ones like in Ocean’s 8 and Thor: Ragnarok.
Hemsworth’s assertion that Blanchett has played some of the best characters on screen is not hyperbole; it’s a testament to her range. From the formidable Queen Elizabeth I in Elizabeth, the daunting Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, and the ethereal Carol in Carol, her mastery over emotional nuances is legendary.
It is only understandable that Hemsworth could not stop gushing about Blanchett as he went on to call her “brilliant” after noting how she has “played some of the best characters on screen and continues to do it with such grace and integrity, and has a wonderful sense of humour and warmth and is kind and supportive. She’s brilliant”.
Chris Hemsworth was last seen in the Netflix hit action flick Extraction 2, directed by Sam Hargrave and written by Marvel hitmaker Joe Russo. The film may not have much of a story but has been praised for its elaborate action sequences. It also stars Golshifteh Farahani and Adam Bessa, who reprised their roles from the first instalment of Extraction.
Extraction 3 is already in the works at Netflix and Hemsworth will return as Tyler Rake.
