The terrific David Tennant crime thriller storming Netflix

Netflix subscribers are busy binge-watching their way through a gripping crime thriller starring the former Doctor Who star David Tennant. In this four-part miniseries, Tennant has traded in his TARDIS for a darker, grittier story.

Set in the picturesque Scottish village of Kirkdarroch, Deadwater Fell opens with a devastating house fire that claims the lives of a mother, Anna Madeley’s Kate Kendrick, and her three young children. Tennant portrays Dr Tom Kendrick, the local GP and husband of the deceased woman. His life is turned upside down as suspicions arise about the cause of the fire. As the investigation unfolds, the needle of suspicion swerves towards Kate, throwing the seemingly idyllic facade of the close-knit community.

Speaking of the impactful first episode, Tennant shared with Entertainment Weekly, “There’s something terribly moving in the first episode. You really feel the intensity of what happens and the sense of this community being racked by this awful event.”

But, of course, things are not as simple as that as Tennant goes on, “By the end of the first episode, it’s hard to see how she [Kate] couldn’t be anything other than terribly culpable for this awful event. There doesn’t seem to be any other explanation, and yet at the same time, [as] someone who watches TV, you’re thinking, ‘It can’t be this straightforward. This is such an awful possibility that my brain won’t entertain it.'”

Created by Daisy Coulam and directed by Lynsey Miller, Deadwater Fell isn’t just about Tennant’s powerhouse performance. Joining David Tennant in this chilling drama are Cush Jumbo (The Good Wife), Anna Madeley (The Crown), and Matthew McNulty (Misfits). With such a stellar cast, it’s no wonder that Deadwater Fell has captured the attention of audiences and critics alike.

Deadwater Fell has risen through the ranks to become a must-watch series on Netflix UK. This week, it is stationed at the seventh spot on the top ten series charts after enjoying a couple of weeks at the top of the list.
