‘The Silent Sea’ is Netflix’s most-watched international series of the week

Netflix’s latest Korean sci-fi series, The Silent Sea, has already gathered a considerable fan following in the wake of the Korean Wave sparked in 2021 by Hwang Dong-hyuk’s Squid Game. This week, the series has become the streaming giant’s most-watched international series.

According to Netflix’s November reports, the website takes into account popular content based on how many “hours” the particular title has been “viewed” for.

The latest updates, from between December 27th and January 2nd, The Silent Sea has been viewed for a total of 47.83 million hours. It is also the second week for the series to be in the Top 10 on Netflix’s most popular list. Besides The Silent Sea, other K-Dramas have also made it onto Netflix’s most-watched lists, namely Squid Game and Our Beloved Summer.

The latter is a more recent release and has been updating episodes on a weekly basis. Our Beloved Summer’s ratings have been accentuated by the inclusion of one of BTS’s lead vocalists, V’s original soundtrack, ‘Christmas Tree’, which has also entered the Billboard’s Hot 100 charts.

Another South Korean dating reality TV show Single’s Inferno has also made it to the list, the first-ever reality show from the country to make it onto Netflix’s top global rankings.

Directed by Choi Jang-yong, The Silent Sea is an eight-episode series that stars Gong Yoo, Heo Sung-tae, Song Ji-an, Lee Joon, Kim Sun-young and Lee Moo-saeng who found a unique way to bond with each other, using their own “comedy skits”.
