The cast of Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi series, The Silent Sea, have shared their thoughts on the series. The streaming titan shared a new behind-the-scenes video of the epic series, showing the filming process and detailing the thoughts of the cast and crew. The special precedes the show’s release on December 24th.
The film is based on director Choi Hang-young’s 2014 short film, The Sea Of Tranquility. The upcoming series stars Gong Yoo, Bae Doo-na and more, and has been in the works for over a decade, as the new video explains.
Leading man, Gong Yoo, stars as Captain Han Yoon-Jae in the show, and recalled his initial reaction to The Silent Sea’s plot. He said: “It was mind-blowing,” he shared. Adding that: “My instinct strongly told me I should do it.”
Bae Doo-na, who plays Song Ji-an, the show’s main protagonist, also revealed her thoughts on the show. She explained that watching The Sea Of Tranquility pipped her interest in the script. She explained: “Watching the film got me very curious about its director”.
At other points in the new clip, the crew outlined the show’s humble origins and journey to becoming a big-budget production. “It was a small, rough gemstone at first,” executive producer Jung Woo-sung revealed. “But it was a matter of how much we would allow it to shine by processing it. It has a story that can throw viewers for a loop.”
The Silent Sea is set in a distant future, where Earth has suffered desertification. It follows a space exploration crew who are sent to the Moon to collect a sample from an abandoned space station, which might provide answers to secure humanity’s survival.
