The secret codes that unlock Netflix for its viewers
When it comes to streaming, no platform is probably at par with Netflix’s horsepower. Ever since the age of streaming kicked off, entertainment has only been a swipe away. There’s hardly anyone oblivious to Netflix’s existence, and likewise, there’s barely anyone who has not succumbed to streaming trends. Whether it’s background viewing, a binge-marathon, or attentive consumption, Netflix is the one-stop solution. While the giant seems like an open book for its viewers, did you know it has secret cheat codes?
The streaming trends of every app mostly suggest shows that are algorithm-based, and Netflix works in a similar way. Whatever shows up in the immediate suggestions is mostly personalised by the viewers’ choices, which in turn robs them of the entire experience. Only a small section of shows and movies appear on the homepage when the app is engaged.
According to What’s On Netflix, special cheat codes are reportedly available on Netflix to unlock even more titles like Netflix-Codes. The codes are made up of categories and sub-categories. For instance, 45028 directs viewers to “Deep Sea Horror Movies”, while 855 is a bit more specific, used for “Feel-good Sports Movies for Ages 8 to 10”.
There’s a staggering number of 4,100 secret category codes on Netflix. But how to use them?
How to use Netflix cheat codes?
The category codes on Netflix make use of IDs which users can use on the website to get their choice of results. These cheat codes are only accessible through links on web browsers. However, subscribers can manually type the code on their TVs and mobile phones. In case of links, the format is: netflix.com/browse/genre/INSERTNUMBER.
Individual titles have their categories allocated as well, alongside genres. Once users click on them, it will redirect them to the genre page. But that’s not all. Besides the links and numbered codes, Netflix has a list of personalised codes made in accordance with viewers’ preferences. These categories include the Continue Watching page, Gems for You, Trending Now, and New and Popular.
Those who want to find projects similar to others first have to find the ID of the title in question. The ID is present in the Netflix URL. All they need to do is manually type netflix.com/browse/similars/NETFLIXID, and the URL will take viewers to a page full of similar projects.
A couple of browser extensions that work well are FindFlix: Netflix Secret Category Finder and Better Browse for Netflix. FindFlix works for Firefox and Chrome, while the latter only applies to Chrome.
A few codes for collections include Shondaland Collection (81349039), Ryan Murphy Collection (81173845), Harlan Coben Collection (81180221), WWE Collection (81921063) and The World of the Witcher (81517755). However, to get a hold of all of them, check the video below for an explanatory guide.
