The full 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' trailer has arrived

Netflix has released the full trailer for its forthcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

The show is based on the Nickelodeon animated series of the same name, which started in 2005. In the forthcoming adaptation, Gordon Cormier plays the protagonist, Aang, and is joined by Kiawentiio as Katara, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko and Ian Ousley as Sokka.

Additionally, at the end of 2023, the streaming giant announced that there had been new additions to the cast, including Casey Camp-Horinek as Gran Gran and Arden Cho as June.

The Netflix synopsis for the show reads: “Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task.”

Albert Kim serves as showrunner and executive producer on the new project and is aided by Lindsey Liberatore, Dan Lin, Jabbar Raisani, Michael Goi and Roseanne Liang. Raisani, Goi, and Liang have all split directing duties as well.

When Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender was announced, Kim wrote in a blog post: “VFX technology has advanced to the point where a live-action version can not only faithfully translate what had been done in animation — it can bring a rich new visual dimension to a fantastic world. We’ll be able to see bending in a real and visceral way we’ve never seen before.”

This new live-action adaptation isn’t the only new offering coming out of the Aang universe. The creators of the original series, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are also working on an animated movie that will continue the story of the Airbender and his friends. There are whispers that it will arrive in late 2025.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is released on Netflix on February 22nd, 2024. All eight episodes will be available at once.
