Netflix shares new images of upcoming 'Avatar: The Last Airbender'

Netflix has shared some brand-new images of the upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Based on the popular animated series of the same name, the Netflix version will see Gordon Cormier play protagonist Aang, who is joined by Kiawentiio as Katara, Dallas Liu as Prince Zuko and Ian Ousley as Sokka.

Additionally, Netflix has announced some new additions to the cast, such as Casey Camp-Horinek as Gran Gran and Arden Cho as June.

According to Netflix, “Alongside his newfound friends Sokka and Katara, siblings and members of the Southern Water Tribe, Aang embarks on a fantastical, action-packed quest to save the world and fight back against the fearsome onslaught of Fire Lord Ozai. But with a driven Crown Prince Zuko determined to capture them, it won’t be an easy task.”

Albert Kim is acting as showrunner and executive producer, with additional help from Lindsey Liberatore, Dan Lin, Jabbar Raisani, Michael Goi and Roseanne Liang. The latter three, alongside Jet Wilkinson, have alternated between directorial duties.

Upon the show’s announcement, Kim released a blog post, writing, “VFX technology has advanced to the point where a live-action version can not only faithfully translate what had been done in animation — it can bring a rich new visual dimension to a fantastic world. We’ll be able to see bending in a real and visceral way we’ve never seen before.”

Avatar: The Last Airbender is set for release on February 22nd, 2024, with all of the eight episodes available at once.
