So, once you’re done with costume preparations, decorations, and adult duties, switch off the lights and enjoy the five best series to stream on Netflix this weekend.

The five best series to binge on Netflix this weekend

Balaraw: Blood Island (Rae Red, 2026)

There’s something really terrifying about folk horror, which is why Balaraw: Blood Island feels like a great starting point this weekend. Directed by Rae Red, the Filipino horror series centres on a daughter’s relentless search for her missing mother. It follows Sabina Tejeros as she traces a mysterious clue, hoping to find answers about her mother’s disappearance years after she vanished, which leads her to an uncharted, ominous land known as Blood Island.

Upon arrival, Sabina realises that her mother’s disappearance has plenty to do with her buried family history, local myths, generational trauma, and dark secrets that ultimately make her suffer from an identity crisis. Although she embarks on a journey to find answers to questions that have been haunting her for years, she gets too close to losing herself in the process, turning the pursuit into an unexpected fight for survival.

Dracula (Jonny Campbell, Damon Thomas, and Paul McGuigan, 2020)

Loosely adapted from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula is a three-part miniseries that deserves a rewatch this Halloween. The gothic-horror series traces Dracula’s origins in Eastern Europe, chronicling his battles with Van Helsing’s descendants and more. It opens with English lawyer Jonathan Harker as he journeys to Transylvania to assist Count Dracula with a real estate transaction in London.

But upon arrival, he realises he stepped into a trap and is now a prisoner in Dracula’s dilapidated castle, where the sinister entity drains his youth and feasts on his memories. Harker somehow escapes the horrifying situation and recounts it to an intelligent, non-traditional nun named Sister Agatha Van Helsing, culminating in a bitter confrontation between the latter and Count Dracula aboard a Russian ship sailing towards England.

Playing Gracie Darling (Jonathan Brough, 2025)

While not a Netflix Original series, Playing Gracie Darling is currently available on the platform, making it a perfect candidate for our Halloween watch. The Australian series centres on a past mystery that haunts the present. In 1997, Joni Gray and her friends held a midnight séance in an abandoned cabin in the woods, hoping to contact a spirit named Levi Darling. And that same night, her best friend Gracie Darling vanished and never returned.

In the present day, Joni is a child psychologist still haunted by the childhood tragedy of Gracie’s disappearance. However, local kids have turned the incident into a sinister game called “Playing Gracie Darling.” What sets Playing Gracie Darling in motion is when Gracie’s niece, Frankie, goes missing under eerily similar circumstances while playing, prompting Joni to return to her hometown to investigate with childhood friend and police officer Jay.

A Couple of Lies (Kasper Barfoed, 2026)

Although A Couple of Lies is not a horror series, it brings equal parts psychological thrill and scares. The Swedish thriller follows a struggling couple, Helene and Carl, as they swap their Stockholm archipelago house with Scarlett and Adam’s sun-drenched villa in Sicily for a few weeks. Although the pairs have never met, both hope to make the staycation worthwhile by working on their respective marriages.

But just as they settle into each other’s abodes, disturbing details surface. While Carl and Helene realise the house in Sicily is nothing like its online description, Scarlett and Adam uncover an extensive surveillance network with hidden cameras all over the house. What starts as an idyllic getaway soon turns into a dangerous game of manipulation and betrayal where nobody is who they seem.

Minimum Wage (Will Phelps, Ryan Micho, Grace Reiter, Julia DiCesare, Luke Burke, Tommy Armstrong, and Aidan Micho, 2026)

If the horror suggestions get a little dark for your taste, you can always cleanse the palate with a lightweight watch, which is Minimum Wage for this weekend. The workplace mockumentary comedy series centres on a group of overwhelmed teenagers and young adults as they juggle school shifts, a demanding boss, and low-wage salaries at the struggling local pizzeria, The Slice Club, where they work.

At the heart of the sitcom is the pizzeria manager, Grace, who tries her best to keep things afloat, but that goal remains a dream, thanks to her chaotic employees. Instead of running things professionally, the underpaid, apathetic bunch of workers spend their shifts doing increasingly absurd things and messing around. Minimum Wage serves as an extended adaptation of a viral YouTube short-form web series.
