The five best series to watch on Netflix this weekend
Netflix has officially taken an oath to increase our screen time with the sheer quantity and quality of content it keeps unleashing left and right. And now that the weekend is once again in sight, it’s time to catch up with all the things you missed throughout the week.
So far, Netflix has been hitting home runs in every entertainment segment, scripted, non-scripted, live, and sports programming. All you have to do is name it.
But since our weekend traditions call for a healthy dose of shows, Best of Netflix is pigeonholing its focus to everything from that very catalogue that’s worth losing sleep over.
While there’s obviously no room for error when it comes to off days, in case you’re at a loss for plans, here are the five best series to watch on Netflix this weekend that will ensure a blockbuster close to your week.
The five best series to stream on Netflix this weekend
The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek (Roni Ezra and Milad Alami, 2021-Present)
Five years after The Chestnut Man season finale, the Danish thriller is back with its sophomore season, titled Hide and Seek, based on Søren Sveistrup’s novel of the same name. The follow-up season picks up two years after capturing the Chestnut Man and reuniting the Hartungs when Thulin and Hess are forced to join forces once again, despite their complicated relationship. For those curious, the two haven’t been in contact since their breakup.
But when a single mother and divorcee, Zara Solak, goes missing on her way back home one night, the detectives finally break their vow of silence as they discover chilling texts consisting of sinister nursery rhymes on the victim’s phone. When the investigation deepens, Thulin and Hess uncover that Zara’s disappearance might be linked to the unsolved case of a missing teen from several years ago.
Legends (Brady Hood and Julian Holmes, 2026)
Set in the early 1990s, Legends is yet another gripping crime thriller that just hit Netflix shelves. Inspired by an untold true story, the new six-episode series from creator Neil Forsyth follows a group of ordinary British Customs officers, dubbed “Legends”, who are sent on a top-secret mission to infiltrate the country’s most notorious criminal drug gangs, in an attempt to take down the drug smuggling operations from within.
At the time, drug trafficking across Britain’s borders was at an all-time high. Although these officers lacked spy training, they were put through a basic training regimen and given new identities to adopt during their mission. While Legends has already been making waves on Netflix, if you haven’t been able to catch up with it yet, you know what to do this weekend.
Worst Ex Ever (Cynthia Childds, 2024-Present)
The Chestnut Man is not the only show that returned to Netflix this week with its second season; the chilling docu-series, Worst Ex Ever, did the same. This season features four stranger-than-fiction true crime stories about relationships that will make you glad that you’re single. Conveyed from the survivors’ POV, each episode is packed with animated reenactments, body-cam footage, and police interviews.
From the notorious serial killer who shares a name with Marvel’s Merc with a Mouth to the unexpected break in an unsolved case from 2011, Worst Ex Ever promises to keep you seated this weekend with its range of shocking subjects. So, if you’re drawn to content backed by true stories, the second season of the hit Netflix documentary is shaping up to be a must-watch on streaming.
If Wishes Could Kill (Park Yeon-seo, 2026)
Whenever there’s a buzz surrounding a Netflix series, it’s an automatic indicator of a powerhouse. As it turns out, nothing really comes close to the noise that If Wishes Could Kill has been making all around. The young adult horror series follows a group of Seorin High School students who discover a mysterious app called “Girigo” that grants wishes after users record them with their name and birthdate.
But after the sudden death of a classmate, they realise that a countdown begins from the minute the wish comes true, leading to the specific user’s death. If Wishes Could Kill revolves around the students’ desperate attempt to overturn the curse and uncover the dark origins of Girigo, which is interwoven with vengeful, supernatural, and shamanistic rituals that capitalise on modern tech anxieties.
Flunked (François Uzan, 2026)
Lastly, to end the weekend marathon, we have a top-notch palate cleanser to do the honours: Flunked on Netflix. The French crime-comedy series follows Eddy Santozzio, a small-time crook and math prodigy, who, upon being caught, is offered a deal by police detective Lucie to avoid a seven-year sentence. The mission is actually simple.
All Eddy has to do is go undercover for three weeks as a substitute math teacher at a local high school to identify the child of a notorious drug kingpin and weapons dealer. Although Eddy must navigate a school filled with raging teenagers while avoiding suspicion, his mission gets extensively complicated when he finds out that the principal is actually his ex-girlfriend, Tiphaine.
