The five best movies to watch on Netflix this weekend
Hello people, the weekend came around again, and it feels like you need a good moment to give your brain a break before the holiday rush starts pulling you everywhere. We thought right before the holidays, you might not need anything heavy right now, just a movie you can enjoy without full focus or effort.
And mind you, holiday movie lists will take over your feed soon, and they get repetitive fast. So before that happens, we picked a few comedies that keep the mood light without pushing you into emotional overload or long stories that demand too much attention.
These movies work well on weekends when you feel tired but still want a bit of fun. You can follow the plot even if you zone out for a minute, which makes them perfect for days when you want calm and comfort in the background.
So here are five titles that fit a relaxed weekend vibe. Pick whichever matches your energy and keep things simple before December gets intense.
The five best movies to watch on Netflix this weekend
Bad Teacher (Jake Kasdan, 2011)
Starting with an old classic, you have to watch this one. It is about this teacher who walks into school every day like she is already done with life, and Cameron Diaz plays her with so much “I’m over this” energy that it becomes even funnier. She doesn’t even try to act serious. She just shows up and looks around like she is in the wrong building. Yet, she keeps going. The whole thing feels like that one senior in school who takes nothing too seriously but still ends up being the most entertaining person in the room.
And Cameron Diaz makes the whole thing even funnier just by existing in that classroom. You also have Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel bringing their goofy energy to the whole thing. The story never turns serious, which is why you’ll love it. It’s just adults being messy for no reason, and it’s very relaxing to watch.
Pee-wee’s Big Holiday (John Lee, 2016)
Okay, so right after you finish Bad Teacher, you need to immediately binge this one because it’s just adorable. And yes, some people might find it a bit weird, but that is the fun part. Pee-wee is basically this grown man with kid energy, and he decides to go on a road trip that turns into a strange adventure. Every person he meets feels like they came from another universe.
The best part is when he ends up with this biker gang, and they take him completely seriously, even though he’s just vibing through life. Overall, it is just this sweet story about a guy enjoying random moments. And it actually puts you in a good mood when you’re tired of drama and just want something wholesome that won’t drain your soul. So, so cute.
The Interview (Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg, 2014)
Now, if you want something louder and a bit crazier, this is the one. It’s about two guys who, God knows how, get pulled into this major political mission, and they go along with it even though neither of them is prepared. The whole thing plays out like two people who said “yes” before thinking about the consequences.
James Franco and Seth Rogen are leading the movie, so fun is a given. You also have Randall Park, who makes everything even funnier. And the movie doesn’t want to teach you anything. It just wants to make noise and let you enjoy. And honestly? That’s why it works. It’s totally unserious. Totally silly. Exactly what you need when you want dumb fun.
We Can Be Heroes (Robert Rodriguez, 2020)
Okay, switching gears for a second because this one’s more of a kids’ superhero thing, but hear me out because it’s super cute. This Netflix mvoie follows a bunch of kids who have to rescue their parents, and some of them have powers that are more funny than helpful. It’s something you watch when you want zero stress.
The MVP: it is Pedro Pascal. Lately, we have been watching him in some serious roles, but witnessing him blending with the goofy childlike energy is quite refreshing. You also have YaYa Gosselin carrying the whole group, with Priyanka Chopra adding a spark to keep things fun.
Leo (Robert Marianetti, Robert Smigel & David Wachtenheim, 2023)
And finally, if you are ending your weekend with something chill and cute on Netflix, Leo is perfect. It’s about this class pet lizard who suddenly realises life is short, so he decides he wants to actually do something with the kids around him. It sounds simple, but the humour lands harder than you’d expect.
We all watched Adam Sandler in Jay Kelly recently, but it’s time to hear him voice a lizard. He gives Leo such a sweet personality, and all the kids in the class bring their own little problems that make the story feel real in the cutest way.
