The five best Arnold Schwarzenegger movies to watch on Netflix

Despite being 75 years old, the iconic Austrian Arnold Schwarzenegger shows no signs of slowing down. With the release of his first-ever TV series FUBAR on May 25th, followed by the three-part docuseries Arnold on June 7th, Netflix is hyping this as the ‘summer of Arnold’.

Fans of the former bodybuilder, Mr Universe title-holder, and governor of California know all about how he has consistently reinvented himself over an illustrious career spanning nearly five decades. In his upcoming series FUBAR, he portrays Luke Brunner, a seasoned CIA operative on the verge of retirement. Luke embarks on a final covert mission to rescue his daughter Emma, who also happens to be an operative. While navigating strained family dynamics, the father-daughter duo teams up with a crew of secret agents to save the day.

The docuseries Arnold, narrated by Schwarzenegger, dives into the three chapters of his public life that we have witnessed over the years: the athlete, the actor, and the American hero. The 2013 film The Last Stand, where he portrays Ray Owens, a former narcotics officer turned small-town sheriff, and the 2018 documentary The Game Changers, where he joins UFC fighter James Wilks on a global quest to discover the optimal diet for human performance, and health are also available to stream on Netflix.

However, even beyond these, Netflix is home to several other Schwarzenegger classics. There is the action-comedy Last Action Hero (1993), where Schwarzenegger’s character Jack Slater is brought to life when a young boy named Danny enters the world of the film. Together, they embark on a thrilling adventure to thwart the plans of the film’s campy villain.

If you are an elder Millennial, then Kindergarten Cop (1990), where he plays an undercover detective posing as a substitute teacher, will take you right back to your childhood. As will the cult favourite Twins (1988), where Schwarzenegger and the legendary Danny DeVito play genetically engineered fraternal twins separated at birth.

And no list of Schwarzenegger films can be complete without Conan the Destroyer (1984) and Conan the Barbarian (1982) if they happen to be available on the streaming library being spoken of. Prepare to be transported right back to the good ol’ days when you had no clue about well-written scripts or “realistic acting” and simply did not care. Hamming up and larger-than-life heroism were just the right amount of pure vibes you thrived on.
