Arnold Schwarzenegger makes series debut in 'FUBAR' teaser

The Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger will make his series debut with the Netflix series FUBAR which has just been teased in a recently dropped trailer.

The official synopsis reads: “A CIA operative on the verge of retirement discovers a family secret. Forced to go back into the field for one last job, FUBAR tackles universal family dynamics set against a global backdrop of spies, action and humour.”

Nick Santora, known for Amazon’s Reacher series, created the show. Cast members alongside the Hollywood action star include Monica Barbaro from Top Gun: Maverick, Jay Baurchel and Gabriel Luna.

Barbaro’s casting was announced by Deadline in October 2020, with reports that her role as Phoenix, the only woman fighter pilot in the Top Gun sequel, caught producers’ eye.

“Everywhere I go, people ask me when I’m going to do another big action comedy like ‘True Lies.’ Well, here it is,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement shared by The Hollywood Reporter. “FUBAR will kick your ass and make you laugh — and not just for two hours. You get a whole season.”

Showrunner Santora added: “I grew up watching Arnold Schwarzenegger films — I’d hit my dad up for a few bucks so I could race to the movies and see the biggest star in the world on the big screen — so creating the first scripted television project for Arnold is unbelievably exciting for me.”

“The thing I always marvelled at was how Schwarzenegger could be funny while still kicking ass,” he continued. “That’s why I wanted FUBAR to be a hysterical, CIA-spy comedy mixed with heart-stopping action! And it is all that — and more.”

It is reported that the eight-episode series will showcase the values of family dynamics with humour, action and undercover spies.

Skydance Television produces FUBAR. The company collaborated with Paramount to create Joseph Kosinski’s Top Gun: Maverick.

FUBAR is set to arrive on Netflix on May 25th.
