The cocaine shark movie wreaking havoc on Netflix again

Continuing the long-held Hollywood tradition of shark sabotage but with a twist that’s sure to leave audiences reeling, we have a (not very) new contender climbing the Netflix charts.

Imagine the sharks from Jaws accidentally stumbled into the world of Scarface, and you’ll get a glimpse into the adrenaline-pumping but less cinematically impressive world of Deep Fear. Here, the sharks might just be hopped up on cocaine. Move over, Cocaine Bear. Cocaine sharks have entered the chat!

This is the second time the film has climbed into the top ten charts on Netflix globally, but not in consecutive weeks, though. Deep Fear is currently wreaking havoc in the fourth spot on the list, with 10.8million hours viewed this week.

Directed by Marcus Adams and written by Robert Capelli Jr. and Sophia Eptamenitis, Deep Fear plunges viewers into a lacklustrely written tale set against the backdrop of the Caribbean. Madalina Ghenea stars as Naomi, a skilled yachtswoman whose solo journey takes a dangerous turn when she encounters storm-stricken drug traffickers desperate to recover their sunken cocaine stash from shark-infested waters.

As Naomi finds herself entangled in a deadly game of survival, she must outwit both the ruthless traffickers and the frenzied sharks that circle hungrily around her. It is the perfect ‘so bad it’s good’ kind of adrenaline-pumping action that endears when the mind is overwhelmed by the many realities of life.

But while the film has garnered attention for its high-octane action and gripping storyline, it’s not without controversy. Its leading man, Ed Westwick, has been navigating choppy waters in his personal life since the sexual assault allegations levied against him by three women in 2017. However, it is to be noted that Westwick’s career was already meandering after the peak it hit with Gossip Girl.
