Derry Girls is a teen sitcom based in Northern Ireland. Directed by Lisa McGee premiered first on Channel 4 in the year 2018. The show was picked up by Netflix recently and has maintained to be on the top ever since. The plot follows the stories of a young girl and her cousin who just joined a Catholic girl’s school. Things take a turn when they wind up on several adventures due to attending this school amidst a national conflict. 

Popular stars seen on screen for Derry Girls include Saoirse-Monica Jackson playing Erin Quinn, Louisa Harland playing Orla McCool, and Jamie Lee O’Donnell playing Michelle Mallon, amongst many others. Derry Girls has been making headlines for its great presentation and sense of humour. Unfortunately, season three is its final season. Fans are left wanting more. Don’t you worry! We have got you!

The show follows the Bluth family’s life after losing all their business. That happens when the head of the Bluth family gets convicted of fraud. Now all the responsibility falls on Michael (Bateman) who has to steer his family’s business and family towards the right direction. 

The show stars many celebrities in their youth and virgin years. Some of them include Michael Cera as George (Michael’s son), Portia de Rossi as Michael’s sister, and Will Arnett as Gob (Michael’s brother). This satirical comedy with definitely serve you alternative comedy and might just be the break you are looking for!

4. Schitt’s Creek 

Schitt’s Creek is probably one of the best comedy shows made in the history of television. This sitcom follows the death of Rose videos for fraud. Similar to the last show, a once celebrated and wealthy family lose all their money over getting cheated by their tax manager. The only thing they have left to their name is the infamous Schitt’s Creek town bought by the father of a family called Johnny Rose as a joke for his son. Real-life father and son duo Eugene and Daniel Levy are the creators and producers of the show. Their chemistry onscreen is as vibrant as is offscreen. 

The show has a brilliant cast following Catherine O’Hara (Moira Rose), Annie Murphy (Alexis Rose), Emily Hampshire (Stevie Budd), and Chris Elliot as Roland Schitt. The wholesome nature of the show landed them several award nominations and awards. 

3. Community

This colossal show follows the life of a lawyer whose license just got revoked. The lawyer, Jeff Winger (Joel McHale), then has to go to Greendale Community College to get it back. Soon he meets with a quirky and diverse set of students to form a study group. The study group becomes more than just a study group soon. New connections are made and lost, all amidst innumerable misadventures throughout their university years. 

Childish Gambino, also known as Donald Glover, gains traction in the show as Troy Bolton as well. Other stars on the show include Danny Pudi, the sensational character Abed Nadir, Alison Brie as Annie Edison, and Gillian Jacobs as Britta Perry. Others include Jim Rash, Chevy Chase, and Yvette Nicole Brown.

2. Great News

Great News is an original NBC comedy that follows the story of a young journalist who works at a TV news network. Things take an interesting turn when the mother of one of the producers joins the company as the new intern. Local news producer Katie feels pressured to work with her smothering mother at her company. Things get wild after a point. The duo walk into several challenges while maintaining their calm at work. 

All amidst a brimming romance between our protagonist Katie (Breega Heelan), and Greg. Tina Fey also makes several appearances in the show. Definitely has a quirky plot and a light watch. Add it to your list now!

1.  Wet Hot American Summer

This comedy sitcom from 2015 only has one season, unfortunately. But absolutely hilarious. People with a wide variety of backgrounds assemble and check in for a camp that promises to provide them with “the summer of their lives”. However, things get tricky soon.

The show is placed in the summer of 1981. A group of counsellors assemble to try and finish all their unfinished businesses before the end of the day. An amalgamation of various frustrations collides to give a vividly and vibrant combination of people. Various frustrations assemble and explode their minds and groins. 

An incredible comedy with a unique story and an even better cast. Known faces that you will find in the show include the ones of Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Michael Showalter, Ken Marino, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Poehler, amongst several others. Give the show a shot today!
