The 10 most popular series on Netflix US this week: May 2026

It’s funny how different things can look on Netflix depending on where you are. Globally, everyone seems to be going feral on Man on Fire, but over in the US, the top spot has gone to Should I Marry A Murderer?. What a refreshing turn of events. Says a lot about what people in the US like watching right now.

To be fair, the US audiences’ obsession with true crime isn’t exactly news. And Should I Marry A Murderer? is exactly what it sounds like, so if you’re into true crime, you have probably already heard about it. The show takes a look at real cases where relationships took a very dark turn, and the whole thing is built around one and only one question: how well do you actually know the person you are with?

Each episode dives deep into the story properly, which is likely why it’s managed to grab the number one spot on Netflix US. You can imagine people putting on one episode and then sacrificing their sleep to binge this masterpiece.

Now, just behind it, Man on Fire season one managed to secure the number one position globally, but was defeated in the US. Nonetheless, it is still doing very well, so it’s not like the US has ignored it. It has the same setup as the 2004 movie, where John Creasy, a former operative, is trying to piece his life together before re-entering the world of violence. The series adaptation of this book by Netflix has actually given Creasy’s character space to breathe, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has done a great job transforming into the character.

Then you’ve got Running Point season two, which is enjoying its second week being in the list, and those who watched and loved the first season of the show are returning to it. Along with it, it has brought the first season of the show back into the chart, which might not be ranking as high as the second, but did a great job attracting new and old viewers.

Next, we have Unchosen at number four, which completely changes the tone of Running Point. It is the story of a secretive religious group and reveals what’s going on beneath the surface. It starts with a young woman who gets involved with a close-knit religious group that seems welcoming at first but slowly starts to feel a bit off. The more time she spends there, the more she notices things that seem fishy. With strict rules and people who don’t question anything, she gets frustrated. And then comes the never-ending fight to get out of it.

And then there’s Hulk Hogan: Real American, which might not be everyone’s first pick, but it’s clearly found an audience. It shows you the rise of Hogan and the major moments from his career, but it also touches on the controversies, which gives it a bit more substance than a straightforward documentary. Even if wrestling’s not your thing, it’s a must-watch documentary.

After those top five, the list starts to spread out a bit. Raw, as usual, is there, followed by La Brea. This sci-fi show has been around for a while, but clearly, people are either discovering it now or giving it another go.

Then you’ve got Danny Go! Season One, which is more on the family-friendly side, and Homicide Squad: New Orleans, which once again brings the true crime space into the list.

And finally, Running Point season one, as we mentioned, is at number ten. So while the global list might be all about Man on Fire, the US seems to be committing to true crime at the moment, with Should I Marry A Murderer? leading the list.
