Will ‘Unchosen’ return to Netflix for a second season? Here’s what we know

Julie Gearey’s intense new psychological thriller, Unchosen, has visibly sparked a wave of intrigue, fascination, and curiosity, thanks to the Netflix show’s gritty premise, which has now fans wondering whether a follow-up season would be in the cards.

Released on April 21st, Unchosen is based on a fictional cult in the UK that follows Rosie, a member of a cloistered Church community who lives with her husband Adam and their daughter Grace. Although a devoted wife and mother, Rosie’s domestic life is anything but normal. And all it takes is for the escaped convict Sam to open her eyes.

As cracks begin to show in her marriage and she grows increasingly fascinated by Sam, their unexpected encounter also makes her question whether the true danger lies with the cult or the escaped prisoner. While Unchosen’s season finale brings the answers we’ve all been waiting for, does it also address what lies ahead for the Netflix series? Unfortunately, not.

The cult drama was not conceived with a multi-season arc in mind; it was billed as a miniseries, and the season finale also draws a conclusive end to Rosie’s contained story. However, can we say the same about Sam and Adam’s story?

Unchosen pulls the curtain with Sam officially taking on a far more crucial role in the church, leaving the doors of exploration ajar in the future. Similarly, Netflix has yet to renew the show for a second season, but the series doesn’t answer what exactly happens to Adam or where he ends up, either.

In a recent conversation with Collider, Fra Fee, who portrayed Sam in the psychological thriller, acknowledged that there’s no mandate to progress further with Unchosen. But then again, he may not be ready yet to let go of a character that feels so naturally “brilliant.” In fact, he sounded pretty confident that the series creator has already considered what could lie ahead for the show if it does manage to hit the right chord.

“I would love to continue his journey simply because I hadn’t come across such a brilliant character in so long, really, and I would just love to explore him further. But as you said, it’s a very satisfying end to the show, and if it were to end here, it’s quite a satisfying one,” Fee said.

“But you know, like anything, if you know these shows, if it’s a big success, you know they’ll want to carry it on, and I think Julie probably has some ideas up her sleeve already.”

So, it’s safe to assume that the fate of Unchosen depends on many factors, and only time will tell what’s actually viable.
