Well, Netflix is having a tug-of-war this week between shows that have dug their heels into the chart and the newer releases trying to knock them loose. One title, though, is still giving everybody else a headache.

That will have to be Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, which is still going strong in the second week, which tells you that the appetite for Ryan Murphy’s take on the case has not dried up. Ella Beatty plays Lizzie Borden, who was acquitted in 1893 of killing her father and stepmother, but the series is not portraying the historical record like holy writ. It plays with the mythology around Borden instead, which was bound to ruffle a few feathers.

Wonka’s The Golden Ticket is the unexpected newcomer making the most noise. Twelve Golden Ticket winners enter a Wonka-inspired factory with a partner and compete through a string of challenges, which sounds like a hard sell until you realise how much mileage reality TV gets out of putting ordinary people in ridiculous situations.

Crew Girl is still holding a strong third position in the chart with Miku Martineau as Teagan Tao, a teenage rower whose plans come crashing down after a family scandal forces her into a new school, where there is no girls’ rowing team waiting for her. Yup, she joins a boys’ rowing team, which leaves her fighting for a place in more ways than one.

A Different World takes us back to Hillman College, and yes, there is a nice little connection for anyone who watched the original: Deborah Wayne is the daughter of Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne. But the show does not spend all its time nudging you in the ribs about the old days. Deborah has her own crowd now, with their own problems to get through.

And then there is The Gentlemen season two, and Eddie is well past pretending he wants out. He and Susie are taking the business into Italy now, which, as you can imagine, brings its own headaches. Season one is in the Top 10 as well, so plenty of people are playing catch-up.

The lower half shifts gears. Gabby’s Dollhouse season fourteen remains in the mix, while further down, Gabby’s Dollhouse season 14 is still hanging around, and the September 21st episode of Raw keeps WWE in the mix.

The Great British Baking Show Collection 14 is there too, with Nigella Lawson now sitting beside Paul Hollywood, while Danny Go! season two rounds out the list.
