For those who have been feeling a little messy in their lives lately, your week’s about to be better because whatever you have going on, Teagan Tao probably has worse happening. This lady will laugh in your face, because Netflix’s Crew Girl takes this teenage rowing prodigy and absolutely wrecks her peace.

Teagan starts out in California with locked-in future plans, but when has that worked out that easy in a Netflix YA drama? And this time, it’s the father, David, raining on her parade. He gets accused of defrauding investors out of millions of dollars, and just like that, the Tao name is radioactive, and Teagan and her mom, Ella, are off to Eagle’s Cove with their old life shrinking in the rearview mirror.

Now rowing is the one thing she can fall back on, but nope. Easton Prep does not even have a girls’ team, because apparently the universe still has jokes. It happens in a true carpe diem moment, and Teagan takes the coxswain seat for the boys’ varsity crew. Naturally, the boys come with plenty of ego, which is already a headache, and then Cam Dillinger and Josh Regis decide that being the only girl on the rowing team isn’t enough of a problem for Teagan, so they get their feelings involved. Teagan keeps getting pulled toward both while pretending she has more important things to deal with. Sure, babe. Keep telling yourself that.

By the finale of Crew Girl, every loose thread comes yanking at once. The Haverford Cup is on the line, Josh has some soul-searching overdue, Cam is very much still in orbit, and then David shows up, out of the blue and with a plan to recover the family’s money, only for Teagan to tell him she would rather he turn himself in than keep running. Can it be any more messed up?

Does Teagan choose Josh or Cam?

First, give Teagan her flowers: Easton takes silver at the Haverford Cup, beating Westvale and getting back on the podium. After spending the season fighting to be taken seriously in that boat, she helps bring the team home with a second-place finish. Not bad for the girl they barely wanted steering them.

Now for the romantic mess, because of course we are going there. Josh and Teagan do not get back together. Instead, Josh asks Teagan to give him another chance once he has recovered, and the moment makes it pretty clear that she has not completely shut the door on him, which, frankly, keeps that whole situation very much alive.

Immediately after, Cam finds Teagan, and they kiss. Yep. There’s your grenade. So Cam doesn’t exactly walk away wearing the boyfriend crown, but that kiss leaves zero doubt that Teagan’s feelings for him are still alive. If season two happens, this mess is picking up right there.

Does she get a girls’ crew team at Easton?

Surprisingly, yes. The Haverford Cup result means even more because Teagan finally gets what she wanted from the start: Easton is getting a girls’ crew team.

What? Waiting for a catch? Yeah, yeah, there is one. The team is backed by The Garner Foundation, a wealthy donor tied to Britney’s family, and Britney herself is joining the new girls’ crew, so Teagan isn’t exactly getting her dream team, as it comes with baggage. Oh, did we mention that Britney is Josh’s ex? There you go. The showmakers have found a very hard way to teach Teagan that life is not easy.

So season one of Crew Girl leaves Teagan with a silver medal and the team she wanted, Josh trying to get his act together and Cam on the other side of one very loaded kiss. Oh, and David? After watching Teagan take silver, he finally takes her advice and turns himself in. Let’s see what new mess Netflix throws in our faces next season.
