It shouldn’t be a shock that the most popular series on Netflix between April 29th and May 5th is the same as last week, if only because it’s snowballed into becoming one of the most talked-about TV shows to come along in a long time.
Richard Gadd’s Baby Reindeer might be an uncomfortable and often harrowing watch, but it’s also a full-blown cultural phenomenon that would be the very definition of water cooler television if so many people weren’t working from home these days, and hydroflasks hadn’t replaced the humble water cooler as the premiere means of hydration.
With over 73million hours viewed and 18.6 million views in total, Baby Reindeer is well on its way to becoming one of the streaming service’s most-watched originals ever, leaving the other nine titles comprising this week’s top ten miles behind and eating its dust.
Star-powered limited series A Man in Full takes second place in its debut week, which by extension knocks DC Comics adaptation Dead Boy Detectives down to third, although it bodes well for a possible season 2 renewal that the horror-tinged mystery has remained a staple of the charts two weeks into its run.
The fourth, fifth, and sixth-placed titles bounce between comedy and reality TV with the third run of Selling the OC sandwiched in between comedy legend Katt Williams’ new special Woke Foke and The Roast of Tom Brady, which saw the NFL legend placed in the midst of a firing line that had the great and good of stand-up lining up to take shots at the seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
Remarkably, Guy Ritchie’s episodic spin on his feature-length crime thriller The Gentlemen is still going strong after nine weeks in release, meaning that there are a whole lot of subscribers out there who’d love nothing more than to see some more adventures set in the oxymoronically quaint-but-deadly world of upper-class drug dealing.
The presence of CoComelon Lane indicates that parents still aren’t being given a moment’s peace, while 3 Body Problem maintaining a spot on the top ten seven weeks into its lifespan paints the encouraging picture of Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss picking up the ball they dropped so spectacularly with the eighth and final season of HBO’s towering fantasy epic, even if it hasn’t officially been renewed as of yet, either.
Rounding out the rankings is Unlocked: A Jail Experiment, with Netflix’s latest top ten once again offering an eclectic array of action, fantasy, crime, reality, and comedy to ensure it lives up to its billing as a veritable buffet for the eyes.
