The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: July 2024
There are no surprises to be found when it comes to the most-watched shows on Netflix this week, with one of the streaming service’s biggest episodic hits returning to pick up exactly where it left off.
A full 22 months after the last batch of fresh episodes dropped, Cobra Kai has returned with the first instalment of its three-part final season, handily decimating the competition to take the top spot with a huge 47.5million viewing hours.
Strangely, though, none of the previous five seasons have returned to the top ten, which is often the case whenever a hotly-anticipated series returns. For proof of that phenomenon, look no further than the third and last season of Vikings: Valhalla, which takes second place behind the Karate Kid sequel.
The epic historical adventure occupies three places in the charts, with the first and second seasons in sixth and tenth spot respectively, indicating that subscribers have either been brushing up on the Norse saga or watching it for the first time in anticipation of its grand finale.
With the Olympics on the horizon, Simone Biles: Rising is the highest-placed nonfiction debutant in third, right in front of Homicide: Los Angeles, another reminder that true crime and murder is about as nailed-on as it gets to draw in Netflix users.
Rapman’s acclaimed superhero series Supacell rounds out the top five as it surely edges closer by the day to an official renewal, and ten weeks on from its premiere the third season of Bridgerton continues holding on as one of the platform’s most-watched titles.
The sixth season of reality TV favourite Too Hot to Handle arrived in seventh, with 40% of this week’s top ten being comprised of new additions. Another two are only in their second weeks, so all in all it’s been a bountiful period for Netflix newbies across the board.
Sword-swinging warriors, martial arts enthusiasts ranging from teenagers to middle-aged men, legendary gymnasts, cold cases, superpowered Londoners, self-imposed chastity, animated felines, and period dramas couldn’t be more different but are all present and accounted for, reflecting the typically eclectic taste of Netflix’s customer base.
