The 10 most popular series on Netflix this week: February 2023

Despite a few mishaps with classic films and series making sudden and unfortunate departures, Netflix still garners users with their original and additional series. The most popular shows from this week involve new and anticipated thriller releases and guilty pleasure reality TV.

At number one with 92,070,000 viewing hours, it’s the popular and suspenseful thriller series You: Season 4 starring Penn Badgley. Following the events of the last season, You sees university professor Joe Goldberg, who holds stalkerish tendencies, re-locating in London with the new identity of Professor Jonathon Moore.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about the narrative structure and ideas for the show, showrunner Sera Gamble shared: “Whodunnits are kind of up to each audience member. There definitely were moments where the conversation in the writers room devolved into everybody just clutching their head from trying to figure out all the different math of who people could be suspecting when.”

“It was the first time I had broken a whodunnit story over many, many episodes like that, so it was a learning curve for me,” she added. “I realized we just have to assume that people will have every possible theory and make sure that’s not the only thing the story has going for it.”

The first season of You also takes fourth place on the top ten list, with 19,240,000 viewing hours. The third season appears at number nine with 11,440,000.

This week’s second most popular show on Netflix is the second season of Ginny & Georgia, with 25,710,000 viewing hours. This comedy-drama series, created by Sarah Lampert, stars Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Diesel La Torraca, Jennifer Robertson, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Scott Porter, Raymond Ablack, Katie Douglas and Chelsea Clark.

Ginny & Georgia focuses on fifteen-year-old Ginny and her mother, Georgia, who move to a fictional New England town for a fresh start after a tragic death in the family.

The supernatural teen series Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega as the titular Addams family daughter, comes in at number three thanks to a total of 22,650,000 hours viewed. The reality competition show Love is Blind takes eighth place with 12,530,000 hours viewed, allowing users to watch ordinary people try to find love blindly by talking to one another through a wall.
