Likewise, mirroring Netflix’s global trends, Tim Story’s 72 HOURS, starring Kevin Hart, is ranked second on the most popular movies chart in the US after earning 11.1million views worldwide.

While the next few spots belong to a Marvel superhero globally, Liam Neeson is busy flexing his superhuman strength at the third position on the most popular movies chart in the US, all thanks to the 2023 Irish action thriller In the Land of Saints and Sinners. Although the blockbuster also left a mark on the international charts, the movie clearly looks far more comfortable Stateside.

Speaking of comfort, the fan-favourite 2015 animated comedy Minions is back in the streaming race for its 18th non-consecutive week. While the heartfelt movie can be found in the second half of the global trends, it has cracked the first half in the US. Meanwhile, following closely is one of the latest Netflix additions, Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers, and Ours, at number five.

Although the cinematic mood has been a mixed bag so far, the most popular movies chart on Netflix US also have some jump scares in store with Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, ranked sixth. Given the film recently hit Netflix shelves, its resurgence on the weekly charts is not exactly a surprise.

Similarly, Netflix also opened its doors to the 2024 action thriller Chief of Station this August, and the addition has literally landed the film straight inside the most popular movies chart in the US.

But if you’re missing the superhero action of the international trends, don’t worry, Spidey has got you at number eight with Spider-Man: Homecoming. Having said that, it is not the only superhero film rising through the ranks, as succeeding it is Black Adam.

As for the final entry? It’s the spine-chilling true crime documentary A Toxic Love Story, still blowing viewers’ minds with its jaw-dropping subject matter. And with that, we officially come to a close for the week!
