Will ’72 Hours’ return for a sequel?
Although this pattern of thought usually applies to its original shows, subscribers cannot keep wondering whether Netflix is planning a sequel treatment for 72 Hours, Kevin Hart’s recent comedy movie.
The chaotic comedy movie stars Hart as Joe, a 40-year-old ad executive who accidentally gets added to a text group of twenty-somethings planning a bachelor party in Miami, eventually joining that complete set of strangers on their adventurous, or shall we say mis-adventurous, trip in an attempt to seek a reckoning, promotion, and solution to all his problems.
Since premiering on July 24th, 72 Hours has been receiving massive viewers’ attention, with many asking if the movie’s one-and-done. While we’ve mostly heard these questions for documentaries and series, it is also true that Netflix comedies have evolved into successful franchises in recent times.
That said, only time will tell whether the Hart starrer transforms into a successful franchise or a standalone success story. As of now, neither Netflix nor Hartbeat Productions has addressed a sequel. In fact, there have been no official announcements about a follow-up story yet, and unfortunately, the crew haven’t publicly discussed a continuation either.
Even then, it’s too early to frown because no one knows what awaits tomorrow. Given 72 Hours premiered just days ago on Netflix, it is still very early to predict its destiny.
Additionally, Netflix likes to weigh in on a title’s potential through viewership numbers, completion rates, and chart performance before generally committing to a follow-up. So, an official announcement could happen weeks or months after, meaning fans will have to hold on to their hope.
While it’s hard to say how long that wait will last, the good news is: the story at the centre of 72 Hours does leave room for future adventures. Before the curtain pulls on the comedy, Joe opts for an “emotional check-in time” with the boys, informing them that he has a gut feeling that he will be planning a bachelor party soon. And he does all of that looking directly at the camera.
Of course, it could end up meaning probably nothing, but what if it’s something? Well, until an official announcement arrives, 72 Hours is currently streaming on Netflix!
