The 10 most popular movies on Netflix US this week: August 2026

Netflix’s regional vogue usually reflects the international trendsetters on its most popular movies chart. But in one way or another, the US chart always stands out, and this week is no different.

During the week ending August 16th, The Last House didn’t just sit on the international throne for a second consecutive week with 33.5million views. It also became the number one movie in 82 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, the Bahamas, Chile, Costa Rica, and, of course, the United States, to name a few.

Following closely on the most popular movies chart on Netflix US is the 2024 adventure movie, Arthur the King, starring Mark Wahlberg. While the film also cracked the global charts this week, ranking sixth internationally, the drama clearly enjoys a better position Stateside and for good reason.

Up next on the most popular movies chart is a gritty new Lifetime thriller based on a shocking true story, The Dating App Killer: The Monica White Story, ranked third in the US. Although the gripping crime drama only arrived on the streamer last weekend, on August 15, the story has clearly grabbed headlines and audiences’ attention all at once.

Ranked fourth on the most popular movies chart in the US is the Sunny Sandler dramedy Don’t Say Good Luck, which debuted on Netflix’s international charts with 8.1million views, ranking second during the week of August 10th to August 16th. Meanwhile, succeeding it at number five is the Liam Neeson thriller In the Land of Saints and Sinners, which is honestly back on Netflix’s charts in just a matter of a few months.

Next in line is the animated blast from the past, Minions, making itself comfortable on the most popular movies US chart for 19 non-consecutive weeks. Following closely at number seven is Tim Story’s newest comedy, 72 HOURS, starring Kevin Hart.

Although the international charts also had Spidey crawling up the ranks, the most popular movies chart in the US has two at the same time. Ranked eighth is Tom Holland’s iconic Spider-Man: Homecoming, followed by the Oscar-winning animated superhero film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

While subscribers must have already noticed that another Oscar-winning animated movie, KPop Demon Hunters, has once again exited the US charts, Gerard Butler’s 2009 vigilante action thriller Law Abiding Citizen has cracked the rankings at tenth. And with that, it’s officially a wrap for the week!
