Netflix unleashed a string of blockbusters last week, and one of the highly anticipated titles has already made itself right at home on the platform’s most popular movies chart. Although no points for correct guesses, in hindsight, it is actually pretty difficult to go wrong with this.

During the week of August 3rd to August 9th, Netflix crowned the gritty sci-fi original The Last House, directed by Louis Leterrier, which debuted at the top of the weekly most-popular movies chart with a whopping 27.5million views. As of now, the claustrophobic mystery thriller is the number one movie in 82 countries, including Argentina, Bolivia, the Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

While The Last House’s rise is not exactly a surprise, Tim Story’s 72 HOURS, starring Kevin Hart, is going strong at number two on the most popular movies chart, despite losing the top spot to the new victor. With 11.1million views, the laugh-out-loud comedy remains one of the Top 10 trending titles in 83 countries.

Next on the most popular movies chart is a fan-favourite superhero movie, Spider-Man: Far from Home, which is clearly banking on the renewed craze around Tom Holland’s wall-crawler, thanks to the recent Spider-Man: Brand New Day. With 5million views amassed this week, it is currently ranked third internationally.

Following closely is yet another Holland-starrer, Spider-Man: Homecoming, at number four with 4.9million views, clearly benefiting from the rekindled frenzy around the actor’s superhero character. Meanwhile, rounding out the top five titles on the most popular movies chart is the jaw-dropping true-crime documentary that sheds light on a shocking miscarriage of justice, A Toxic Love Story, with 4.1million views.

Ranked sixth on the most popular movies chart is an unsurprising trailblazer, the Oscar-winning KPop Demon Hunters with 3.3million views. Succeeding the animated fantasy musical is the Liam Neeson thriller that Netflix subscribers clearly cannot get over, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, with 3.2million views.

With 2.8million views, the 2015 animated comedy Minions is making waves on Netflix at number eight. Meanwhile, next in line is Terry McMillan Presents: His, Hers, and Ours with 2.7million views.

Lastly, the 2025 Pierce Brosnan Southern noir crime thriller Fast Charlie is pulling the curtain on the most popular movies chart with 2.6million views. And needless to say, that with that, it’s a wrap for the week!
