The most popular movies chart on Netflix has had a massive overhaul, with a new star shining bright at the top this week.

Although the Netflix Original sci-fi mystery thriller, directed by Louis Leterrier, reigned on the throne for two straight weeks, the summit officially belongs to the heartfelt Sunny Sandler comedy in the week of August 17th to August 23rd.

With 12.8million views amassed, the bittersweet dramedy Don’t Say Good Luck is currently the number one movie in 17 countries, including Bolivia, Cyprus, Croatia, and the United Kingdom, among others.

For its third consecutive week on Netflix’s most popular movies chart, The Last House, starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, is ranked second with 12million views. It is currently the number-one movie in 11 countries. While the viewership difference between the first two titles is not exactly worlds apart, it has right about enough to give Don’t Say Good Luck the edge it needs, now more than ever.

Up next on the most popular movies chart is Rory Kennedy’s investigative documentary Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing with 4.7million views. The film serves as the long-awaited sequel to Kennedy’s 2022 docufilm Downfall: The Case Against Boeing and examines the ongoing corporate culture crisis, manufacturing defects, and the cost of blowing the whistle on the aviation giant.

Ranked fourth on the most popular movies chart this week is Tim Story’s laugh-out-loud comedy 72 HOURS starring Kevin Hart with 4million views. While the Netflix comedy has been scratching the comedic itch for five weeks non-stop, the Lifetime thriller The Dating App Killer: The Monica White Story just debuted on the international chart with 3.4million after its appearance on the US rankings last week.

Following the shocking true-crime movie is the Oscar-winning animated musical KPop Demon Hunters, with 3.1million views. Succeeding the record-breaking movie with the same number of views on the most popular movies this week is the gritty 2018 action thriller, Breaking In.

Next in line is yet another gripping new Lifetime thriller, To Catch a Cheater, which recently hit Netflix’s shelves and has already earned 3million views. Right beneath that, on the most popular movies chart, we have Nathan Greno’s unmatched animated comedy Swapped.

Lastly, pulling the curtains on the most popular movies chart is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. And with that, it’s officially a wrap for the week!
