Is the ‘KPop Demon Hunters’ charge finally done and dusted?
The more we talk about KPop Demon Hunters, the less it honestly feels. As Netflix’s official mainstay, Maggie Kang’s Oscar-winning film made itself at home the minute it hit the streaming shelves. Then, why does it feel like the end of an era after all this time?
Well, after Netflix released its reshuffled trends of the week, in the week dated May 4th to May 10th, viewers couldn’t help but mourn a glaring absence, that of KPop Demon Hunters from the US charts.
While KPop Demon Hunters is still ruling the top 10 movies chart globally with 3.6million views, the same doesn’t apply for the US trends, despite spending 46 weeks on it since its explosive debut in June 2025. Understandably, the drop stings.
This marks the first week since its Netflix premiere that KPop Demon Hunters has given up its top 10 spot, which, by and large, is influenced by binge-worthy newcomers like Nathan Greno’s record-breaking Swapped, Olivia Newman’s Remarkably Bright Creatures adaptation, and Baltasar Kormákur’s high-stakes survival thriller Apex.
Having said that, does KPop Demon Hunters’ absence from the US mean that the momentum is lost forever? Of course, not! The animated movie remains a global top 10 trendsetter as we speak, currently ranked fifth on international charts. Just so you know, the Netflix flick is on a 47-week streak at the moment, which alone underscores its staying power.
Although there’s little doubt that 2025 belonged to KPop Demon Hunters, which even allowed the film a brief but fascinating theatrical run, for those worried, this is definitely not the end of the road. Having dominated Billboard and Netflix charts alike, the Oscar-winning movie shattered records, bagged awards, and even announced a sequel.
That’s right! Did everyone forget about it so soon? While merchandise reveals from American Girl Dolls and Lego carry on, so does its streaming momentum, in more ways than one.
Surely, it may have snuck out of the US charts, but with a sequel confirmed to be in development, it’s only a matter of time before the demon hunting begins with renewed energy. So, until then, there’s absolutely no saying whether it’s the end of an era or the beginning of a new one.
