It might be Halloween in only a few weeks, but the world of Netflix has seemingly not woken up to the plethora of scary movies now available on the platform. This week’s most popular movies include some new titles and some films that are probably best left in the past.
However, the most popular movie of the week was always destined to land with a bang. Starring Justin Timberlake, Alicia Silverstone, and Benicio Del Toro, Reptile was always going to grab the 45.1million hours of viewing it accrued last week.
The Reptile official synopsis reads: “Premise. Following the brutal murder of a young real estate agent in Scarborough, Maine, a hardened detective attempts to uncover the truth in a case where nothing is as it seems, and by doing so dismantles the illusions in his own life.”
Another guaranteed hit was Fair Play, which will be disappointed not to have amassed more than its 24.2m hours of viewing that it gained. Fair Play boasts a talented ensemble cast that brings the characters to life.
Phoebe Dynevor, best known for her role in runaway Netflix hit Bridgerton, takes on the role of Emily, while Alden Ehrenreich portrays Luke. The supporting cast includes Eddie Marsan, Sebastian De Souza, Rich Sommer, Sia Alipour, Geraldine Somerville, and Patrick Fischler.
There is, however, one cult classic movie on the list. Lindsay Lohan’s Mean Girls is not only a joyful romp of teenage melodrama, but it is perhaps the most culturally significant movie on our list this week. Spending its second week in the charts, it is a must-watch at any time of the year, but it likely got most of its viewing on “October 3rd”.
