This week’s global top ten films on Netflix have the usual list of suspects except the one ruling the roost. As March bows out, the number one film on the global top chart is a South African action flick about an assassin in retirement.
Heart of the Hunter, directed by Mandla Dube, is based on Deon Meyer’s book of the same name. The official blurb of the film reads: “The quiet retirement of a once-feared assassin in South Africa is interrupted by a desperate call from the daughter of an old and trusted friend whose father has been kidnapped. He uncovers a conspiracy at the heart of the government.”
Meanwhile, Janeen Damian’s Irish Wish, starring Lindsay Lohan, continues to charm audiences for the third consecutive week. But it has slipped down from the number one spot. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo’s Damsel, starring Millie Bobby Brown, holds its ground in the top ten for the fourth week running, offering a modern twist on the age-old damsel in distress trope.
Directed by Gavin O’Connor, The Accountant is an action-packed thriller. The story follows Ben Affleck’s Christian Wolff, an accountant on the autism spectrum who is a master at manipulating financial records. With news of a sequel in the works, interest in the 2016 film has pushed it up to the fourth rank on the top ten list of films globally on Netflix.
The Casagrandes Movie is next in line. An animated adventure directed by Miguel Martinez-Joffre, this one is for the family. As is Will Gluck’s Peter Rabbit 2, which is at the eighth spot on the chart.
The Shirley Chisholm biopic by John Ridley has climbed up a spot while films like On the Line and The Equalizer 3 have re-entered the list in their second and fourth non-consecutive weeks, respectively.
Rounding out the top ten is Joshua Caldwell’s Mending the Line, featuring Brian Cox in his post-Logan Roy softie era, along with Sinqua Walls and Patricia Heaton.
