The 10 most popular films on Netflix this week: March 2022

Every week Best of Netflix will bring to you the list of ten most popular films on Netflix across the globe. From new releases to certain old ones, some of these Netflix films have been reigning the charts for weeks and becoming bonafide classics in their own right.

To help you avoid confusion and participate in the social buzz about the hottest new releases this week, we bring to you a list of the most popular films that have been streamed for millions of hours.

This week has been a particularly great one for Ryan Reynolds. His newest release The Adam Project is continuing to occupy the top spot with a whooping streaming time of 31,700,000. Directed by Shawn Levy and also starring Walker Scobell, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner and Zoe Saldana, the sci-fi time travel film has a healthy balance of adventure and heartwarming moments, making it a brilliant family watch.

Reynolds has also occupied the sixth position on the chart with his Michael Bay film 6 Underground which, despite criticism from film critics, had managed to become a massive hit on the streamer upon its release; such is the mighty Reynolds effect!

Will Smith’s Gemini Man has climbed up the charts to the third spot for the second week in a row and his infamous act of violence at the 94th Academy Awards this Sunday probably has a lot to do with it. While Smith is recently trending for having slapped comedian Chris Rock for cracking an offensive joke about his wife’s condition and violating the Academy’s code of conduct minutes before snagging the much-coveted gong for Best Actor, the film has been streamed for over 16 million hours and sees him as a jaded agent trying to find the creator of his murderous clone.

Among recent releases, Charlie McDowell’s audacious Hitchcockian thriller Windfall has managed to secure a spot in the top ten for the second week. Starring Lily Collins, Jesse Plemons and Jason Segel, the darkly humorous tone of a home-invasion-turned-marriage-therapy seem to have struck a chord with the audience.

Shrek and Despicable Me 2 are consistently featuring on the top ten charts, with the latter occupying a solid spot for over seven weeks.

Jim Jarmusch’s horror-comedy The Dead Don’t Die starring Adam Driver, Bill Murray and Tilda Swinton, too, has been performing very well on the streamer despite its poor reception upon release.
