Welcome back to our weekly roundup of the most popular films on Netflix! From June 19th to June 25th, 2023, some familiar favourites and absolute newcomers have made their mark in the top ten charts.
Taking the lead this week yet again is Extraction 2, starring Chris Hemsworth and Golshifteh Farahani. With a staggering 87.3million hours viewed, this adrenaline-fueled film has been dominating the charts for two weeks now.
However, not far behind is its predecessor, Extraction, which claims the second spot with 27.2million hours viewed. The intense action sequences have clearly resonated with audiences who have a love for all things that go boom.
Next is the hit medical docu-drama Take Care of Maya, which depicts a medical team investigating ten-year-old Maya Kowalski’s rare illness and questions her parents, leading to Maya being taken into state custody against her family’s wishes.
In fourth place, we have The Perfect Find, starring Gabrielle Union in a romantic comedy. With 11.7million hours viewed, it’s clear that this film has struck a chord with audiences seeking the comfort of light-hearted romcoms that were all the rage in the noughties.
For the younger audience, Paw Patrol: The Movie continues to be a rager, occupying the fifth position. This animated adventure has garnered 9.1million hours viewed, proving that the heroic puppies are still winning the hearts of children and parents alike. But of course, The Boss Baby seems to be a hit on another level with its nine-week stay in the top ten like a champ.
Jordan Peele’s Get Out, starring Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Lil Rel Howery, and LaKeith Stanfield has nestled itself in the ninth spot this week. People are really in the mood for psychological terror ahead of Sarah Snook’s Run Rabbit Run’s release this week.
Rounding out the top ten are Clint Eastwood’s crime drama The Mule, Cameron Diaz and Ashton Kutcher’s fun but critically panned romcom What Happens in Vegas, and Keanu Reeves’ samurai flick 47 Ronin, endearingly tagged as one of Hollywood’s biggest box office bombs of 2013 by the likes of Variety. But that distinction did not stop a sequel from coming out in 2022, Blade of the 47 Ronin. A third part is also in the works.
