Netflix has just shared a list of the new animated titles hitting the platform in the coming year, with everything from a new Wallace and Gromit movie to an animated series helmed by Zack Snyder to get excited about.
At a recent presentation where executives at the streaming service announced several new titles, Christopher Sean, the host, explained, “When most people think about animation, they think about Saturday morning cartoons or G-rated movies.” He added, “But animation is so much more than a kids’ genre. It’s a way to tell all kinds of stories for all kinds of audiences.”
One of the most anticipated projects coming to Netflix is Twilight of the Gods, an animated series helmed by Synder, which will immerse us in a mythological world where Gods and humans butt heads. Synder teamed up with his wife and producing partner, Deborah Snyder, and animation director Jay Oliva for the project, which will hit the streaming service in the autumn.
The new Wallace and Gromit movie, Vengeance Most Fowl, is going to be released in the winter of 2025, although you’ll be able to catch it on BBC during the 2024 Christmas period. While the Netflix teaser shows a few clips of Gromit’s face getting covered in jam during breakfast, another clip released by the BBC shows that everyone’s favourite villain, Feathers McGraw, will also be returning.
Elsewhere, Timothy Olyphant will voice the titular character in Terminator Zero, a co-production between Japan and the United States. Based on the Terminator films, it was developed by Mattson Tomlin and directed by Masashi Kudō. The eight-part series will be released on August 29th.
Spongebob Squarepants fans can get excited for a new movie in the franchise – Plankton: The Movie. Directed by Dave Needham, the Spongebob antagonist will be trying to take over the world in the film, which is set for release in early 2025.
Other animated titles coming to Netflix soon include the final season of Big Mouth, the next instalment of Arcane, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, K-Pop: Demon Hunters, Jurassic World: Chaos Theory, In Your Dreams, and Spellbound.
